About Me
Who Am I?
I'm Petr Spěvák, a software developer working at NexGen agency since 2019. I specialize in backend solutions using TypeScript, Node.js, and NestJS, as well as PHP with Symfony. I also develop cross-platform mobile applications with Dart and Flutter.
An interesting historical note: my mother's maiden name is Hacker, from a knightly European lineage. While I honor these historical roots, the modern meaning of "hacker" certainly doesn't apply to me (though as a programmer, I can hardly avoid requests to "hack into this or that").
Philosophy
I believe in building "applications that make sense" - seeking practical solutions between technological trends and proven methods. Currently, I'm actively exploring AI integration in my work, but I prioritize rational implementation with clear benefits for clients rather than adding it superficially.
Background
My programming journey started early - in elementary school with Pascal, continued through Visual Basic in secondary school, and expanded to Java and PHP at university. After attending Gymnázium Na Vítězné pláni, I studied Computer Science at the University of Economics in Prague, where I had the privilege of learning under Jiří Kosek, who authored the world's first PHP textbook.
My career path has taken me through various industries beyond IT. This diverse experience has given me practical insight into real user needs and business operations, enabling me to approach technology not just from a technical perspective, but with an understanding of how it creates genuine business value.
Personal Life
Born in 1982, I'm married with a son (born 2019) and 5 cats. My family and I relocated from Prague to a house in a South Bohemian village, where we enjoy a quieter pace of life.
In my free time, I'm passionate about:
Tea (particularly sencha green tea)
Reading literature and technical content
Sword practice and martial arts
Walking in nature
Photography (digital SLR/RAW format)
Writing
Volunteering with a local nonprofit organization
Availability
While currently fully engaged with projects, I'm always open to discussing interesting concepts and having conversations about technology.
